Everyone’s a Critic…

On September 12th, GRAFT ran a new public workshop “Everyone’s a Critic” for Lancaster Art’s event “Something’s Happening Here…”, which was the launch event for a new programme of arts engagement events focusing on Lancaster’s historic Mill Race area.

The event took place in the car park behind Lancaster Grand theatre, which is in the centre of the Mill Race, and involved new activities and works by local artists.

“Everyone’s a Critic” invited participants to explore the Mill Race with new eyes, imagining it as an artwork that might have been created by an artist. Might this help us to understand a familiar place in a different way? Or to unlock new ideas about Lancaster’s history?

We asked people to find a part of the Mill Race they felt we particularly interesting and capture it for us. Some people did this by making drawings, others did it using text.

We collected all of these creative responses together as a series of digital collages which together offer us a creative look at a historic place in Lancaster…
