A collaboratively created tile mural in Morecambe’s West-End Micro-Gardens.
In August 2022, GRAFT supported Glasgow-based artist Beth Shapeero to produce a permanent public tile mural in Morecambe’s community-led Micro-Gardens.
Beth worked with 2 groups: members of the local community who were engaged with the site; and young people from Stanley’s Youth Centre. Through a series of creative workshops, both groups collected inspiration from the plants, produce and wildlife at the gardens, each contributing to a large-scale mural.
The project brought together 2 different groups, promoting ownership of shared community spaces and platforming making as a means of celebrating people and places. The tile mural can be viewed at the Micro-Gardens, at the corner of Cavendish Road and Sefton Road, Morecambe.
Thank you to Good Things Collective CIC and staff at Stanley’s Youth Centre for supporting the project.
